The Sweet Rock Café 2000, Stourbridge.

This Friday night was a little bit special as, after three years including two ‘Glitz Blitz’ tours, singer Tony O’Hora was sadly leaving Sweet.

A packed Rock Café was ready and willing to give him the send off he deserved. With the ‘James Bond’ theme fading, it was straight into ‘Hellraiser’ and ‘Burn on the Flame’. At this point, Andy said to the audience that “the band did not want this guy to leave”!

This was a sentiment echoed by fans all over the globe. ‘The Sixteens’ was then followed by ‘Everything’ off the excellent ‘Sweet Life’ album. The ball-busting ‘Cockroach’ was followed by ‘AC/DC’, fast becoming a popular live track.

’Oxygen’ followed with Steve Grant doing another excellent solo while Andy, Tony and Bruce had a well deserved breather. The final run-in started with ‘Rampage’, ‘Fox on the Run’ and ‘Action’.

The encore of ‘Set me Free’ plus a blistering drum solo by Bruce was finished with ‘Ballroom Blitz’ too, an excellent night, which included 2 pints for under a fiver!!

As Alan and I sat down for our late night curry, we both pondered the thought, who the ‘ell would Andy get in to fill Tony’s shoes?

Not only the best line-up since the original four-piece, but also an extremely sociable guy who had time for us all, an excellent singer and bass player.

We await the new arrival with great interest and wish Tony all the very best for the future.
