Having sped effortlessly from Euston to Birmingham International by Virgin, we are standing on the
inside, soaking wet through. Outside the heavens have opened albeit there’s a power cut at the Arena and no one can get in until the situation is resolved.
Feeling somewhat drier we are soon standing at our
seats enjoying ‘Rock it!’ Yes, even the band thought the loss of power meant they would have to abandon the show. Thank heavens, no sir!
Once again, the hits flow. There are some new songs in the form of
‘Lovely people’, ‘This is how I feel’, ‘Love’s dance’ and Outkast’s ‘The way you move’, all taken from EW&F’s 2005 ‘Illumination’ collection.
But essentially the set list is
another ‘greatest hits’ countdown. We do get some of the lesser known stuff too. Yet ‘Boogie Wonderland’ comes early on and ‘Getaway’ goes last. My favourite cut of the night is ‘In the stone’.
What a band! We head for home having been thoroughly entertained. Yes, EW&F are still probably the world’s greatest dance band.
