VDM In the depths of Hertfordshire, 22 July 2006

I’m here thanks to drummer Robin Lewis, one-time fellow BOD / Funk King Rockstars band member. He’s agreed to back two old buddies, Mark Cantellow and Nic Denbow, from another of his former bands. It’s a one-off gig, a rather special occasion. He’s dragged me along for the ride.

Mark’s not only playing guitar and singing lead vocals on the day, he’s also the Groom! We schedule five spasmodic rehearsals in as many months in Harlow and Welwyn Garden City towards the grand finale, Mark and Heather’s big day.

We are gathered with the guests in a large back garden on the outskirts of Whitwell village, Mark and Nic resplendent in kilts! We are supporting tribute band ‘State of Quote’ with a full-on PA, outdoor stage, lighting and fireworks too!

The set list Mark and Nic have selected is an assortment of rock covers, some excellent choices! It is all great fun, wonderful to be back on stage and with a lively audience, out front.

Heather and bridesmaid Karen join us on stage to sing backing vocals on the last number. Mark and Nick do an impromptu acoustic encore of ‘Rockin in the free world’. They are telling me they want to do more in 2007. Guess I’d better start looking for another kilt!
