Craig and Charlie Reid seem to have been constantly ‘on the road’ since the 1980s. In the last four years
alone, the brothers have produced three of their best ever albums: 2005’s ‘Restless Soul’, 2007’s ‘Life With You’ and this year’s ‘Notes & Rhymes’.
The title track from ‘Notes’ is the perfect opener for tonight’s show at Cambridge’s magnificent Corn Exchange. We are perched up in the Balcony and have a fantastic view of Craig,
Charlie, Garry John Kane [bass], Zac Ware [guitar], Clive Jenner [drums] and Stevie Christie [keyboards] playing right in front of us.
Six tracks, in total, feature
from the latest album ‘Notes’. The rest of the set also includes six tracks from the band’s classic ‘Sunshine On Leith’ album.
The exuberance of the
impassioned Cambridge audience soon spills over and, once again, we find ourselves singing along full pelt to all the classics: ‘Letter from America’, ‘Let’s Get Married’ and ‘I’m Gonna Be [500
Miles]’ among many others.
A particular highlight is ‘Sunshine On Leith’ when Craig and Charlie are joined by Erica Nockalls on violin [she having turned in a
mighty fine support slot with Miles Hunt covering some splendid Wonder Stuff tunes].
